Toledo Zoo Lights Before Christmas ready to light up south Toledo through the 2023 holiday season

The Glass City officially gets into the holiday spirit Friday night.

Once again, south Toledo will be fully illuminated for the holiday season with the Toledo Zoo’s 38th annual Lights Before Christmas sponsored by Key Bank.

The light displays get bigger and bigger every year, with the team from the zoo now working the majority of the year for this six-week event.

Twin tiger cubs born at Ohio zoo

The Toledo Zoo is celebrating not one tiger cub birth, but two.

Twin tiger cubs were born at the Toledo Zoo in July, the zoo announced in a post to their social media pages.

The zoo welcomed the twin Amur tigers on July 20. The cubs were born to mom, Talya and dad Titan. The two had also welcomed twins in 2021.

Toledo Zoo welcomes baby giraffe ‘Franklin’

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Zoo has welcomed a baby giraffe as the latest edition to the herd, according to a social media post from the organization.

The calf, Franklin, was born to mother, Tuli, and father, Rocket, on Saturday. Tuli completed the “tall task” of giving birth to a 165 lb. calf. Zookeepers said a neonatal exam found both mother and baby were doing well off-exhibit.

Zookeepers will introduce Franklin to the rest of the herd when they deem he is ready; following that, Zoo visitors can meet Franklin at the Africa exhibit later this month.

Service Professionals Experience Day of Honor at the Toledo Zoo

In recognition of their selfless dedication and tireless efforts, the Zoo offered free admission and organized special activities to celebrate police officers, firefighters, EMTs, military personnel, and hospital staff. This event aimed to express our deep gratitude and appreciation for their invaluable service.

Throughout the day, the service professionals enjoyed a memorable experience at the Zoo. They were able to explore our vast array of exhibits, encounter fascinating wildlife, and participate in engaging activities. From a special performance by the United States Air Force Band of Flight, Spirit of Freedom Brass, to a heartfelt presentation, Day of Honor, proudly sponsored by Cleveland-Cliffs, provided a unique opportunity for these heroes to relax and enjoy time with their families and receive thanks from our visitors.

New parking lot, new opportunity for Toledo Zoo

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Lots of new changes could be on the long-term horizon at the Toledo Zoo.

Anthony Wayne Trail is home to a big construction project which could lead to possibilities that aren’t even known yet.

The entrance most people use is on the trail but in a few years, the trail will still be the right road.

The vacant property butting up to the Toledo Zoo on the inbound side of the Anthony Wayne trail is surrounded, too, by neighborhoods.

Toledo Zoo offers Funday Sunday hands-on activities for children this weekend
