Uniontown’s Maxwell Moldovan, newly-turned professional and the most decorated player ever to come out of Ohio State, has entered the 103rd Ohio Open, enhancing the star-studded field of 288 that also includes reigning Ohio Amateur champion Andrew Bailey, of Shaker Heights, and 11 former Ohio Open champions.

The 54-hole Ohio Open, sponsored by Pyramid Treating, will be played Monday through Wednesday next week, July 1-3, over Westfield Country Club’s North and South courses.

Moldovan, who turned professional last week, is playing in the ATB Classic in Strathcona County, Alberta, Canada this week. The event, his second event on the PGA Americas Tour, is being played near Edmonton. The former Green High standout missed the cut by one shot last week in the Beachlands Victoria Open in British Columbia.

“American Pickers” Are Coming Back to Ohio

American Pickers, the hit documentary series on the History Channel, is coming back to Ohio in August 2024.

American Pickers is a documentary series that explores the world of antiques as well as the people, stories and collections that come along with them. The hit show on the History Channel has been airing since 2010 and has over 25 seasons. The show follows the pickers Mike Wolfe, Danielle Colby, Robbie Wolfe and Jersey Jon as they hunt for America’s most valuable items while meeting new people and visiting new sites.

Movie filming takes place in Toledo neighborhood Sunday night

A Toledo neighborhood became the scene of a movie Sunday evening.

According to Toledo police, 20th Century Studios will be in the Westmoreland neighborhood from approximately 8 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday for the filming of an upcoming movie.

Police said the movie crew will be using prop guns and fake blood during filming. TPD said officers will be in the area to help with traffic control.

Jam to Pearl Jam’s 1996 Toledo, Ohio concert

One of Generation X’s favorite and biggest rock bands has rocked in Ohio. Pearl Jam once played a concert in Toledo on September 22, 1996 at Savage Arena.

Paul Mitchell The School Toledo offering a selection of free services to cancer patients and survivors for Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day.

The beauty school, which is located on Monroe Street in Sylvania, will offer free haircuts, washes, styles and manicures for people fighting cancer.

Lindsay Ramm, an admissions advisor for Paul Mitchell School, shares what it means for the beauticians who serve the survivors.

58 new citizens take oath at Toledo Zoo

Beyond the new baby elephant, Kirkja, other new happenings were afoot at the Toledo Zoo, where 58 new American citizens from 33 different countries were naturalized on Tuesday before noon.

“Every corner of the globe” was represented according to United States District Court Judge Darrell A. Clay, who presided over the ceremony, which he proudly boasted contained individuals from North and South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, and Oceania.

Bob Vasquez, the liaison and chief advisor to the CEO of the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium, welcomed the new citizens and shared his family’s story of how his grandparents came to the United States from Mexico.

How to sign up for the 2024 Toledo Library summer reading program

The Toledo Library is holding its 100th summer reading program, a season-long event that encourages community members of all ages to continue reading during the summer months. Here’s how to sign up for the program, and a look at which prizes the library is offering this year.

The program, which launched June 1, lasts until Aug. 3. Between that time, readers should track how many days out of 30 they have read. At various points during the program, participants can turn in their form in exchange for prizes.

Spray Finishing Workshop in Toledo

Carlisle Fluid Technologies (Binks, DeVilbiss, Ransburg, MS, BGK) and Owens Community College have partnered to present a Spray Finishing Technology Workshop. This three-day intensive training program will be held from November 6-8, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio. Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily and include classroom and hands-on sessions.

Attendees should be involved with industrial, contractor, or maintenance spray finishing applications, or in spray equipment sales and distribution. The workshop topics include:

Equipment types and selection: Understanding the various types of spray finishing equipment and how to choose the right one for specific applications.
