Earlier this week, a dog owner was reunited with her lost pet Husky on her birthday after the canine was found more than 100 miles away.

Missy Landis’ dog, named Hines, had been missing for over a week from Columbus, Ohio, before he was found in Toledo, Ohio, WTVG reported.

A long-awaited addition to downtown Toledo is taking it back to the Roaring ’20s for a glamorous weekend of events on Adams Street.

RubyCats is hosting its inaugural gala weekend fundraiser for Toledo’s first cat cafe. Attendees are invited to embrace the spirit of “The Great Catsby” and enjoy speakeasy vibes while getting a sneak peek at “the cat cafe transformation,” according to a RubyCats spokesperson.

The three-day event will be held at 618 Adams St. inside what will soon be RubyCats, although the feline stars will not be joining the festivities just yet.

Toledo Zoo welcomes baby elephant

The Toledo Zoo is welcoming a new member to its family with the birth of a baby elephant.

African elephant Renee gave birth to a male elephant on Feb. 17, 2024, who now weighs 280 lbs. Renee and her calf are in excellent health and zoo staff continues to monitor their wellbeing, a statement from the zoo said.

The Toledo Zoo is launching a naming contest where the public can donate to pick their favorite name. The choices include Leap, Link, Loki, Leif, and Leo. The contest starts Friday, March 1, and closes at 11:59 p.m. on March 14.

Mobile Meals of Toledo is delivering food on Jan. 30 and 31, to over 45 clients who requested pet food.

The pet program was started to eliminate meal clients feeding their pets with their food. Mobil Meals of Toledo is hoping that in doing so, the clients and their pets can eat their own food.

According to a press release from Mobile Meals of Toledo, 45 clients requested food for their pets. The pets include; 48 dogs, 50 cats, two rabbits and two birds.

Some U.S. cities, however, are more pet-friendly than others.

Lucas County Canine Care & Control, commissioners break ground on new facility

TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County Commissioners held a groundbreaking Monday at the site of the new, “state-of-the-art” Lucas County Canine Care & Control facility.

The future 40,000-square foot shelter will be located at 1301 Monroe Street near 13th Street and is estimated to cost $31.1 million.
