Toledo local social impact entrepreneurs: Apply now for funding

TOLEDO, OHIO, April 22, 2024 — Heart disease is recognized as the leading cause of death in Toledo-Lucas County for the past five years[1]. While genetics can influence an individual’s health outcomes, social risk factors – or the conditions where people live, learn, work and play – adversely affect a wide range of outcomes[2].

Aiming to address these social drivers of health, the American Heart Association, celebrating 100 years of lifesaving service, is opening its Social Impact Funds to local organizations and social enterprises in Toledo for the first time. The Funds were designed to reduce social and economic barriers preventing longer, healthier lives in communities nationwide. Specifically the Funds support local entrepreneurs working at the community level to measurably increase equitable access to health and health care, economic empowerment and food security.

Keeping it clean | Volunteers spruce up area parks for Earth Day

Members of the community got together on Sunday to make the area’s already beautiful parks look nice and healthy for Earth Day on Monday.

Metroparks Toledo hosted clean up events at four locations including: Glass City Metropark, International Park, Wiregrass Lake, and Keil Farms, which is the site of a future Metropark.

Dozens of participants showed up at International Park for the event.

TOLEDO, Ohio — As the weather gets cooler, you may be looking for some great, family-friendly activities indoors. After seven years of planning, Adventus Climbing is now open in west Toledo.

Built from the ground up, the facility offers multiple 40-foot rock climbing walls and 15-foot bouldering walls. It offers memberships, day passes and equipment rentals.

Those who practice the hobby regularly explained climbing has taken off over the last 15 years as an excellent form of exercise.
