Washington Local one step closer to starting construction on new middle school

One of northwest Ohio’s largest school districts is looking to replace some of its older buildings. That’s why Washington Local is looking to build a whole new school.

Washington Local plans to start construction on Quast Lane this summer. This comes after Toledo City Council approved the permit earlier this month.

People who live in the area are excited about the new addition, which is coming at no cost to them.

‘Fortune 200 tech company’ looks to build $750m campus in northern Ohio

A large technology company is behind plans for a large data center campus in northern Ohio. At the same time, Apple is reportedly planning a new data center campus in the state.

Liames LLC comes to the Toledo area

WTOL 11 and The Blade report an unnamed ‘Fortune 200 tech company’ is planning a large data center development outside Toledo. Middleton Township trustees discussed plans for a $750 million project during a trustees’ zoning meeting last week. The trustees have adopted a resolution backing the project.

Toledo School for the Arts enrollment lottery to open Oct. 2; application guide to the 2024-2025 school year

TOLEDO, Ohio — Prospective students interested in attending Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) for the 2024-2025 school year should mark their calendars: the enrollment lottery opens Monday, Oct. 2.

TSA recently completed a $10 million expansion project, allowing them to accept more students than in previous years and now includes a black box studio, a barrier-free dance studio, a large art gallery and school store and, most importantly, more learning space for students.

Stranahan Elementary planning Lucas County’s first inclusive school playground

TOLEDO, Ohio — The PTA at Stranahan Elementary School, in the Sylvania school district, is planning an inclusive playground.

PTA officials said the playgrounds promote kindness, diversity and inclusivity as well as build friendships.

PTA president Tara Haye said the project is expected to cost $800,000, which includes turf, equipment and installation.

Toledo City Council hears progress on free pre-kindergarten program

TOLEDO, Ohio — Hope Toledo President John C. Jones spoke before Toledo City Council’s Finance Committee Thursday about the progress of the organization’s free pre-kindergarten program.

Toledo City Council member Katie Moline and others on the finance committee continued to offer their support for free pre-K, but Moline said the issue is securing sustainable funding before American Rescue Plan Act dollars run out.
