TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Owens Corning (OC) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $131 million.

The Toledo, Ohio-based company said it had profit of $1.46 per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses, came to $3.21 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.82 per share.

Northwest Ohio plays a role in the state’s top ranking for doing business

TOLEDO, Ohio — Ohio is now ranked the fifth-best state in the country when it comes to states doing business.

A top-five spot in Area Development Magazine is worn as a badge of pride, Dean Monske, president and CEO of the Regional Growth Partnership, a northwest Ohio-based economic development agency, said.

“It says to the rest of the county, and quite honestly the rest of the globe, that we know what company’s needs are that are looking to expand and that we are leveraging our assets to address those needs,” Monske said.

Free Coffee! PETA to Hijack Toledo Starbucks Customers in Surcharge War

Toledo, Ohio – Because Starbucks admits that animal-friendly vegan milks are better for the planet but insists on charging extra for them, PETA supporters will gather outside the chain’s KeyBank location on N. Summit Street on Thursday to intercept would-be customers with free RISE Brewing Co. oat milk lattes. The push for passersby to avoid the coffee chain comes after nearly 150,000 PETA supporters asked the company to end its vegan milk upcharge.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Romules Durant rang the opening bell Wednesday to get the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge started at Jones Leadership Academy.  

The school’s gym took on the hustle and bustle of a stock exchange trading floor, with buying an selling happening at a rapid pace.

President of Junior Achievement of Northwestern Ohio, Jim Pollock, said the challenge is about getting kids exposed to the stock market and teaching how it plays into their financial wealth.

Gas prices in Toledo down over 11 cents a gallon

TOLEDO, Ohio — Gas prices in northwest Ohio came down a bit last week after a big jump one week earlier.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Toledo went down 11.4 cents last week to $3.29, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 315 stations in the city. That price is 38.2 cents higher than a month ago and 18.2 cents higher than a year ago.

The cheapest station in the Glass City was priced Sunday at $3.13 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.65.

Noodles & Company to open on Monroe Street Tuesday

TOLEDO, Ohio — Northwest Ohio’s first Noodles & Company is set to open Tuesday in west Toledo.

It will occupy the former Moe’s Southwest Grill at 5299 Monroe St. nearby the Flanders Road intersection and across the street from Mattress Firm.

The fast-casual chain’s next closest location is in Ann Arbor.

Average gasoline prices in Toledo drop below $3 a gallon

TOLEDO, Ohio — Gasoline prices in Toledo are still falling and the average price per gallon is now under $3.

The average price in the city dropped another 13.9 cents a gallon last week to $2.86, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 315 stations. That cost is 68.5 cents less than a month ago and 16.5 cents less than a year ago.

Prices locally have dropped about 89 cents a gallon in the last six weeks. The cheapest station in Toledo was priced Sunday at $2.63, while the most expensive was $3.42.
