Baseball Clipped by Toledo in Sunday Series Finale

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its final game of the four-game series against the University of Toledo Sunday, April 24, 15-5 in seven innings.

Senior Brady Huebbe (Peru, Ill.-La Salle-Peru (Northern Illinois)) led the Eagles offensively, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs on two home runs. Junior Matt Kirk (Milford, Ohio-Milford (Toledo)) added to Huebbe’s awesome power-hitting performance by going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Junior Frankie Volkers (Maple Grove, Minn.-Maple Grove (North Iowa)) (1-3) got the ball to start for Eastern Michigan (15-24, 10-14 MAC) and took the loss.

How It Happened
The Eagles were trailing 8-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Huebbe got Eastern Michigan’s bats going with a one-out solo home run.

EMU kept the Rockets off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. The Green and White offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Huebbe, which brought the score to 8-5 in favor of the Rockets. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Toledo added seven runs to its tally on the way to a 15-5 final.
