Free Comic Book Day draws near; south Toledo shop preparing for a big Saturday

TOLEDO, Ohio — Ed Katschke has been working with Monarch Comics since 1991. It’s a job he’s always had a passion for.

“It’s such a different way to get stories,” Katschke said. “Unlike movies, or television shows, or novels, you actually have this unique mixture of words and pictures that you can’t find in any other kind of entertainment.”

Thirty years later, Katschke has taken ownership of the store, and a lot has changed across the decades of working there.
